Word To Your Books,
Book Gal

P.S. Read Frenemies if "Word To Your Books" makes no sense!

Frenemies

When best friends Halley and Avalon spend a summer apart they come back different people. After spending the summer at a prestigious art camp Halley has grown as an artist, found a new style, and met a new friend who taught her that appearances aren’t everything. However Avalon spent her summer lounging by the pool and buddying up with the head cheerleader Brianna Cho. As the two girls learn more about the other’s summers they find that they have both grown, but not in the same direction. Before they know it their friendship is shattered and it’s time to divvy up sports, friends, seats, and custody of their co-owned puppy Pucci.

The subject of best friends turned enemies is a common theme in many novels. While I never tire of reading about feuding friends, authors need to consider the large number of these books already on the shelves when writing. The novel is good overall but in such a large and popular genre one must write a killer novel in order to stand a fighting chance. I found the plot rushed, the girls slipping from friends to enemies to "frenemies" then back to friends rather quickly and without much substantial reasoning. The characters are developed well but once again the developments are rushed at best. I would however still recommend this book, even with the rushed plot, due to its storyline, humor (usually aimed at Avalon’s bust), and relatable situations.

My recommendation would be to read Frenemies with an open mind and focus on the laughs and cattiness rather than the rushed storyline. I look forward to reading the sequel Faketastic with the hope of a more complex story and the same level of humor.

4 Stars!

Hello....

Okay people, this is getting ridiculous. Am I writing all of this for myself? Or are you reading? Is it really that hard to comment?

I'm working hard to improve the blog, but my efforts are wasted if no one sees the blog. So I'm going to give you guys a look at what I'll be doing for you and what I'd like you to do:

Spotlight Series

  • Me: So I've been in contact with some authors and I will be adding a new element to blog: The Spotlight Series! Along with a review on the monthly series I will also be posting an interview with the author, using some questions suggested by you, and possibly a live chat!
  • You: I need you guys to post (during a specified time) questions you have for the author. You also need to become more active, or (DUH) a live chat will be worthless (and embarrassing) Plus I would also take requests for the monthly Spotlight Series and a select few readers will be chosen to write a Reader Review for the series.

Polls

  • Me: I'll be adding some polls to the blog so that you can have more of a voice.
  • You: PARTICIPATE!!!!

Reviews

  • Me: With summer right around the corner I will be reading more and have more free time, so I'd like to start reviewing novels again!
  • You: Be active, tell you're friends, and COMMENT COMMENT COMMENT!!!!!

These are only a few things I will be doing to make the blog better and the more involved YOU are the more fun the blog will be.

After I posted my Fantastic Friday I got some awesome news! So here is why my Saturday is so Superb:
  1. I was going to meet E. Lockheart, Lauren Myracle, and Sarah Mylnowski (authors of How to Be Bad) in San Francisco, but because of a family emergency I can't go. ( Not so superb) BUT I talked to the event coordinator and she is going to send me a special copy, signed by all three authors!!!
  2. I hear about a contest to win a signed copy of Friends Close, Enemies Closer, via an email from the author. So of course I entered! This morning when I checked my email account, there was a message from Claudia and (drum roll please) I WON!!!!

Okay it seems like Lady Luck is on my side today!

Keep reading and have a SUPERB SATURDAY

Fantastic Friday

This Friday has all the reason to be fantastic. In fact it is practically fantastical! And here's why:
  1. Meg Cabot's new novel, Airhead, which is (was) scheduled for release on June 1 is out online at B&N.com (typed: barnesandnoble.com)
  2. Carolyn Meyer's new novel, In Mozart's Shadow, is (was) scheduled for release sometime this May is in stores already!
  3. It's May!
  4. (In compliance with #3) Lots of FANTASTICAL books are coming out in May
  5. (In addition to #'s 3 and 4) I will be getting the fantastic chance to meet three great authors (whom will remained unnamed for the time being) in May
  6. I found out that Jennifer Lynn Barnes is writing a sequel to Tattoo, titled Fate, which will be released next year!

Yes, it definitely would seem that this week was fantastical!

However not so fantastical:

NO ONE RESPONDED TO THE GIMMICK!!!!!!

So it will remain up the rest of the week. If no one has replied to it by next Friday then the gimmick idea will be taken back to the drawing board (A.K.A my brain). Which I would prefer not to do because my brain is an incredibly scary place. (i.e. Unicycle, uni-tard, hockey, hockey puck, rattlesnake, monkey, monkey, underpants.) So please reply or even just comment what you think of the idea and/or site.

Thanks!

P.S. If you don't watch Gilmore Girls you probably have no idea what "Monkey, monkey, underpants" means and now think I am a psycho. Which is all the more reason to reply and keep me from coming up with more of that garbage!
