Empowering, flirty, and fun are all words I’d use to describe The Cinderella Society.
When I first picked it up I expected a cute story about a popular club, full of makeovers and cat fights at the mall. Little did I know that beneath the pink cover (which I love by the way) was an exclusive secret society that is concerned more with the happiness of the meek than how many pairs of Jimmy Choos they have in their closets. The Cindys aren’t catty or shallow; they’re poise, confident, and caring. I absolutely love how Cassidy has reinvented the classic popular girls and made them a part of a web of empowering female role models.
And then, of course, there was a healthy dose of drama. Between the mean girls -- the Wickeds -- and boys, Jess encountered her fair share of obstacles. The inclusion of everyday high school turbulence into her somewhat fantastical world really grounded the story and made it come to life.
With all of this going on, The Cinderella Society was a blast to read. I can’t wait to see Jess develop and grow even more in the next book.
